Assessing Trends in Multidimensional Poverty During the MDGs

While we have extensive information on the trends in income poverty, little is known about multidimensional poverty. The paper tries to fill this gap by assessing changes poverty 54 countries since 2000. analysis relies two individual-based indices, G-CSPI and G-M0, which combine three dimensions: education, health, employment, derived through constitutional approach. a distribution-sensitive index, while G-M0 allows decomposition dimension. results reveal that more than 80 percent of reduced However, progress was very limited sub-Saharan Africa. Different analyses indicate alleviation mainly driven reduction incidence decline health deprivations. A comparison with suggests correlation not strong has decreased significantly less.
